MPYBL Basketball Community,

As many of you know, this time of year is traditionally when we begin preparations for winter basketball, both travel and house league. This year is different, as we continue to observe the guidelines set out by the State of Virginia and the CDC.

We recognize that many kids are anxious to return to basketball and are working toward a plan that safely allows players to return to the court. Safety and compliance with the state are our priorities. The MPYBL will remain on a “hold” while we await a final decision from our Recreation department, City officials and the VSHL. We hope to have a decision made by early November.

The MPYBL season will run very different from prior seasons. Participation will require face coverings, modifications to the practices and games, and cooperation across the board.

The Fairfax County Youth Basketball League (FCYBL), the governing organization of travel basketball, has posted on their website that they are, “in a wait and see mode on what the season will look like or if we will have one.” When they make a decision, we can move forward with planning for a potential travel season.

Should you have any questions please reach out to me or my staff and we will assist you as best we can.

Please stay safe and keep practicing as we look forward to seeing you again.
